Opt-in / Customer Consent

Glossary Page

Informed consent explicitly granted by an individual, typically a customer, allowing the use of their data. It is essential to provide prior information regarding the intended use of the data to the individual who opts in. Any additional usage requires a separate request for a new opt-in. Moreover, only those business units specified in the opt-in text are permitted to access and process the data. For example, if the opt-in is for Telekom Deutschland, T-Mobile Austria is not authorized to read or handle the data. Usually, an opt-in is obtained in written form. It is recommended to seek guidance from the legal department when drafting the opt-in text. Note: In Germany, the corresponding law is § 4a BDSG
