In such a time, when fairs and congresses cannot be held due to the corona pandemic, digital alternatives become more and more important for the maintenance of economic development. Therefore, the International Data Space Association will transform the joint stand planned for the Hannover Fair into a virtual event.

The International Data Space Association (IDSA) is using the cancellation of the Hanover Fair to present IDS-based solutions in multimedia form. The IDSA is organising the first virtual exhibition from 20 April to 15 May 2020.

On the basis of 11 use cases from 3 areas (from several member companies) it will be shown how secure data exchange can promote innovation, efficiency and growth at a virtual exhibition.

At the Virtual Expo on 28.04.2020 several interesting Use Cases were presented, including 4 Use Cases for Smart City.

Idento.one presents three market-ready applications of the IDS – Launching Coalition by Hannes Bauer, Orbiter.

Orbiter is partner of the IDS Launching Coalition (#IDSgoLive). Orbiter already enables digital, legally compliant identity management with the idento.one application. The three partners of Orbiter – Gigaa, Livisi and Scope – can thus secure market advantages in applications for smart home and recruiting.

Smart Parking from FIWARE offers digital solutions to improve parking in a city, solutions to reduce air pollution and to support local businesses in a city by Ulrich Ahle, FIWARE.

Today, up to 30% of inner city traffic is looking for free parking spaces. On the other hand, more and more people are shopping online, which poses challenges for stationary shops. Digital solutions based on FIWARE have the potential to improve this situation. By providing information about the offers of the shops according to their preferences, car drivers can be motivated to buy articles in stationary shops and encouraged to buy in the shops.

Bio-surveillance as a service is a solution supported by the digital Enabler™, to support decision-making processes in epidemic management by Angelo Margulio, Engineering.

The development of the coronavirus epidemic SARS-CoV-2, characterized by a high infection index and rapid spread, makes it essential to monitor the evolution of the epidemic in real time. The Digital Enabler aims to set up a bio-monitoring system that provides an automatic and real-time monitoring tool of the epidemic in a very short time. The creation of a holistic logical dataset that normalizes all available data sources and ensures their usage policies allows the creation of dedicated processing data pipelines that can feed multiple dashboards tailored to the needs of different categories of stakeholders, ranging from public administrations, healthcare managers, general practitioners, national/regional/local law enforcement agencies, crisis management task force, etc.

Smart Lighting for Cities was presented by Dr Dandan Wang, Senior Data Scientist at the Data Intelligence Hub (DIH).

There are several challenges in urban lighting design. The aim is to optimize the product life cycle of street lamps, make their use more effective and track real world operational data to improve proactive maintenance. The question is how these data sources can be connected to a system and shared with others.

Intelligent street lighting makes your street and urban lighting intelligent. The solution is based on a central lighting management application with a control node in or near the lighting equipment in use. With these systems, the city can remotely control all street lights. The city can program the start and end of the lighting cycle and define brightness control standards to optimize cost and maintenance functions that were not available before.

With regard to brightness control, different schedules can be implemented depending on the area (residential area, industrial area, city centre), events (Christmas market, football match) and situation (time with little traffic).

With the help of motion sensors, pedestrians or road users can be detected and the lights can be automatically switched on within a certain radius or controlled from dark to full brightness.

This complies with all relevant regulations and reduces light pollution. With the latest LED technology, 40% to 70% of energy costs can be saved. In addition, citizens can be given a better feeling of security and quality of life in the city. In the past, street lamps were a basic supply and received little attention. It is now possible to use dynamic street lighting that is fully in line with the city and citizens’ expectations.

During the live event, international speakers will gain a deep understanding of the wide areas of data sovereignty and present the latest technologies based on IDS. In addition, the live chat offers visitors the opportunity to ask questions and discuss topics in real time. Despite the Corona crisis and the absence of attendance events, the IDSA has made it possible to digitally implement a cancelled event through Virtual Expo.
