OSGi Alliance
Glossary Page
The OSGi Alliance provides specifications for device, sensor, and actuator interoperability, enabling remote management of endpoints and their applications. These specifications encompass a modular, dynamic execution environment that can integrate various communication protocols and applications through APIs. Additionally, there are specifications for cloud PaaS and a development environment for creating modular apps based on OSGi. These specifications have been widely implemented in product developments across various industries, including enterprise, smart home, telematics, and AAL (ambient assisted living). The OSGi Alliance collaborates with other industry stakeholders and serves as the foundation for HGI SWEX and is considered in the European Commission's SMART 2013/0077 study. An expandable IoT demo showcases the necessary end-to-end connectivity required in M2M (machine-to-machine) scenarios.

Sovereign connectivity: Automating access in dataspaces
Sovereign connectivity in dataspaces requires automating network access to ensure security, compliance, and operational scale. In the Data Intelligence Hub, we replace manual firewall updates with a declarative, Kubernetes-native model using Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs). Customers define their allowed IP ranges through a self-service portal, which generates an IpAccessPolicy object representing the desired state. A controller then reconciles this state with the underlying infrastructure, automatically updating Kubernetes Ingress configurations and preventing drift. This architecture ensures auditability, validates inputs before enforcement, and keeps network access aligned with the principles of data sovereignty across multi-tenant environments.
