Ein Satz von Geschäftskomponenten, der in Netzwerken verwendet wird, um Serviceanbietern bei der Erlangung von Kundeneinblicken, der Erstellung von Echtzeit-Abonnements und der Einführung neuer, ertragsgenerierender Dienste zu helfen, wird als Business Support System (BSS) bezeichnet. BSS ist wesentlich, weil es Serviceanbietern ermöglicht, ihre Geschäftsdienstleistungen zu verbessern, indem es ihre Operationen unterstützt und erweitert. Alle Serviceanbieter, einschließlich mobiler, fester und Kabelnetzwerke, nutzen Business Support Systeme. Ein BSS wird auch als Operational Support System (OSS) bezeichnet.
