Die Festplattenverschlüsselung ist eine Technologie, mit der Daten auf einem Datenträger verschlüsselt werden können. Dabei kommen komplexe mathematische Algorithmen zum Einsatz. Durch die Verschlüsselung ist der Zugriff auf die Daten nur mit einem speziellen Schlüssel oder einem Passwort möglich, sodass unautorisierte Personen keinen Zugriff auf die Daten erhalten. Die Verschlüsselung dient als zusätzliche Sicherheitsschicht gegen Angriffe durch Hacker und andere Bedrohungen aus dem Internet oder dem Netzwerk.
