FlexVolume war eine Schnittstelle zur Erstellung externer Volume-Plugins in Kubernetes. Sie wurde jedoch veraltet und durch das Container Storage Interface (CSI) ersetzt, das mehrere Probleme mit FlexVolume behebt. FlexVolumes erforderten Root-Zugriff, um Treiber-Binärdateien und Abhängigkeiten auf Host-Rechnern zu installieren, und es war schwierig, sie zu pflegen. Im Gegensatz dazu bieten CSI-Treiber eine standardisierte API, sind flexibler und besser verwaltbar. Daher empfiehlt die Kubernetes Storage Special Interest Group (SIG) die Implementierung von CSI-Treibern anstelle von FlexVolumes.
