MDX, die Abkürzung für Multidimensional Expressions, ist eine Datenbanksprache, die für analytische Problemlösungen entwickelt wurde. Sie dient als Erweiterung der SQL-Sprache, die von Microsoft eingeführt wurde, um Abfragen und Skriptzugriffe auf multidimensionale Daten zu ermöglichen. MDX ist zwar für seine Flexibilität bekannt, kann aber auch als relativ komplex angesehen werden. Nichtsdestotrotz ermöglicht seine große Flexibilität die Umsetzung aller wesentlichen Lösungsszenarien im traditionellen Data Warehousing.
