Drahtlose Zugangsnetze ermöglichen die drahtlose Verbindung zwischen mobilen Geräten und dem Kernnetzwerk. Ein Funkzugangsnetzwerk (RAN) besteht aus Funkbasisstationen, die die drahtlosen Verbindungen zu den mobilen Geräten herstellen, sowie den Funknetzwerksteuerungen (FNS), die eine Verbindung zu den Mobilfunkvermittlungsstellen (MSC) im Kernnetzwerk herstellen.
