Für die Speicherung von multidimensionalen Datenstrukturen basierend auf dem Konzept des OLAP-Würfels (Online Analytical Processing) existieren unterschiedliche Techniken: Multidimensional OLAP (MOLAP), Desktop OLAP (DOLAP), Relational OLAP (ROLAP) und Hybrid OLAP (HOLAP). Im ROLAP-Ansatz, dem relationalen OLAP, werden die Daten vollständig auf dem Datenbankserver gespeichert.
