In Kubernetes ist ein Dienst eine Möglichkeit, eine Netzwerkanwendung freizugeben, die als ein oder mehrere Pods in Ihrem Cluster ausgeführt wird. Ein Dienst wählt eine Gruppe von Pods mithilfe eines Selektors aus. Wenn weitere Pods hinzugefügt oder entfernt werden, ändert sich die Gruppe von Pods, die dem Selektor entspricht, automatisch. Die Service-Abstraktion stellt sicher, dass der Netzwerkverkehr an den aktuellen Satz von Pods für die Arbeitslast geleitet werden kann. Kubernetes-Dienste nutzen IP-Netzwerke (IPv4, IPv6 oder beides) oder einen externen DNS-Namen. Die Service-Abstraktion ermöglicht auch den Einsatz anderer Mechanismen, wie Ingress und Gateway.
